It is perfectly normal to feel anxious in situations such as exams, performances and presentations etc. In fact, some nerves are a good thing as they help you to stay alert and perform well. However, when anxiety becomes prolonged or has no apparent cause it can leave you feeling worried, frightened and physically unwell, and this can affect your everyday life and create more anxiety in turn. Learning to reduce and manage your anxiety is important to keep your mind and body happy and healthy. Here are some tips.
Grapefruit is considered to be a cross between the sweet orange and the pomelo. Like other citrus fruits, grapefruit is high in vitamin C and offers protection against infectious illnesses. The essential oil has a fresh, sweet citrus aroma which is very uplifting, making it ideal for people who suffer from depression. It is also an excellent oil for helping to remove toxins from the body – perfect for those who have perhaps overindulged during the festive season!
Grapefruit essential oil is produced from the fruit peel of the Citrus x paradisi tree. The tree is thought to have originated in the West Indies; however it was cultivated in California, where most of the essential oil production now takes place. The use of grapefruit in aromatherapy is fairly recent; it has extensively been used as a flavouring in soft drinks and as a fragrance component in perfumes and toiletries. Grapefruit is associated with the colour yellow and the solar plexus chakra. Yellow is linked with intelligence, the search for self-knowledge, joy, happiness, and emotional sensitivity. It is the colour of the ego, the mind, nerves and the brain. Yellow is uplifting and re-energising, and is an excellent colour to use when studying or deep thinking. An imbalance of the solar plexus chakra may appear as lack of confidence/self-esteem, oversensitivity, difficulty concentrating, power issues, exhaustion, worry, anxiety, or problems with the adrenal glands or the digestive system.
For January's special offer aromatherapy massage, I have blended grapefruit with cypress, juniper and fennel essential oils, all of which are excellent for helping to speed up the removal of toxins by stimulating the lymphatic and circulatory systems. I'm offering the choice of having the massage on the back, neck and shoulders, or on the legs and feet - an area that is often prone to water retention and a build up of toxins. These oils would also be ideal to use daily at home in a bath and body blend.
